upcycling program for used writing instruments

To develop a healthier environment, many major corporations and local charities have decided to work together. To start with, Expo, Paper Mate and Sharpie have jointly agreed to work in partnership with TerraCycle. These three mentioned companies are the most recognized writing and marking brands in the world while TerraCycle is a pioneering company which finds new ways to repurpose those items that are considered as throwaway items.

For the first time in history, this kind of partnership will create such program that collects and reuses pens, markers and other writing instruments. To meet this purpose, some collection centres, known as ‘Writing Instrument Brigades’ will be set up at those locations like large corporations and schools which use writing instruments in large quantity. Two cents will be paid for each writing instrument collected at a Writing Instrument Brigade. Thus this endeavour will also help to raise funds for charities, community groups, schools and non-profit organizations.

Later the collected writing instruments will be dissembled and then reprocessed to make new products. Since such collection efforts are likely to reduce landfill proliferation, it requires more number of people to be educated worldwide and inspire them to join such an effort. This program is very easy to operate and can be joined by any individual who is keen to have a healthier environment. Sign up with the website of TerraCycle, www.terracycle.net and establish a Brigade location. Then select a school, charity group or non-profit organization which you want the collection funds to be directed.

Visit any of these websites namely www.sharpie.com , www.papermate.com or www.expomarkers.com to know more about Writing Instrument Brigade.
